About Us

The Oregon Association for the Education of Young Children is a proud affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.  Our mission is to promote high-quality, early learning for all young children, birth through age 8, by connecting early childhood practice, policy, and research. We advance a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession and support all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children.

Our Staff

Executive Director: R. Taylor, Ed.D

With three decades of experience in early childhood education, R. Taylor began her career as a classroom teacher and home visitor, later serving as a faculty member and administrator of early childhood programs, and as a community college dean. She holds a doctorate in Education Leadership from Portland State University and a master’s in Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education from Concordia University, St. Paul. Her work has focused on supporting families, advancing early childhood education programs, and building community partnerships to improve outcomes for children. A passionate advocate for educators, she serves on numerous local, state, and national boards. She is currently a Commissioner with NAEYC's Higher Education Accreditation System.

Program Manager: Sara Stearns

A lifelong Oregonian, Sara brings a deep commitment to supporting the early childhood education and care workforce across the state. With extensive experience in training, mentoring, and teaching, she works closely with early learning professionals to strengthen their skills in child development and program management. Sara is also an adjunct faculty member at Southern Oregon University's School of Education, where she teaches courses in early childhood education. As a Master Trainer for the Oregon Registry, she leads workshops and orchestrates conferences that inspire and equip educators at every stage of their careers. Passionate about quality care and lifelong learning, Sara is dedicated to helping Oregon’s early educators thrive.
